Engaging the public to stand up for wild salmon

In a time of polarization, we are uniting citizens from across the political spectrum and across the province to defend their home waters and wild salmon.

Highlights from 2024

  • We hosted and supported several successful events, including our first storm drain marking event in Coquitlam, our second annual Salmon Day at ƛ̓éxətəm (pronounced tla-hut-um) Regional Park, and our annual Salmon Spawn Watch contest that encourages British Columbians to witness salmon returns.
  • Since January, we’ve been featured in over 1,200 news articles speaking up for B.C.’s wild salmon. A selection of articles can be viewed here.
  • We celebrated our 25th anniversary with a fantastic party at Patagonia Vancouver in May that was attended by our staff, allies and supporters.
  • We hit over 92,000 followers and reached over 1.68 million accounts across our social media channels. Our volunteer group grew to 445 members and our supporters sent over 20,000 emails calling on decision-makers to take action to defend wild salmon.
  • We stood up for wild salmon in the halls of power, meeting with First Nations leaders, mayors and city councillors, MPs, MLAs, federal and provincial cabinet ministers and government staff from local managers to deputy ministers.

Next year, we will:

  • Expand our public engagement program to include increased watershed stewardship, with a focus on mobilizing volunteers in the Coquitlam River watershed.
  • Continue to grow our online audiences and expand our reach across social media platforms to share stories about B.C.’s wild salmon and our work.
  • Keep standing up for B.C.’s wild salmon and rivers.
