An Update on the Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable

May 14, 2020

By: Meghan Rooney

Watershed Watch is a founding member of the Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable (CRWR) which promotes the long-term sustainability of the Coquitlam River watershed. Hailed by water management experts across B.C. as a model of collaboration and problem-solving, the CRWR has representatives from  a diverse cross-section of interests in the watershed including First Nations, all levels of government, business, education, recreation and community organizations.

In response to COVID-19 health recommendations, the CRWR will be modifying its implementation of the Coquitlam River Watershed Plan. The team have prioritized the following four strategies to continue working toward a healthy watershed while preserving the health and well-being of its members and watershed community:

  1. Create a development incentives feasibility study to encourage sustainable land use among the development community in the Coquitlam River watershed;
  2. Promote adaptive stormwater management;
  3. Develop recommendations for the next water use pan update; and
  4. Promote high standards of water practices in new developments.

The CRWR is excited to announce the release of its first annual report for 2019, “Building Sustainable Capacity Through Partnerships.” The report is available online via the CRWR website.
