Once again, Watershed Watch Salmon Society has partnered with the Outdoor Recreation Council and others to support World and B.C. Rivers Day.

On Sunday, September 25, 2022, millions of people from more than 100 countries will be celebrating World Rivers Day, which has become one of the world’s largest environmental events. This year’s World Rivers Day will once again focus on “the incredible natural, cultural and recreational values of our rivers and streams in our communities.”

World Rivers Day grew out of B.C. Rivers Day. Since 1980, thousands of British Columbians have been celebrating BC Rivers Day with independently hosted events such as film screenings, community barbecues, stream cleanups, paddling trips, festivals and ceremonies.

The last two years, we have seen some creative online approaches to the celebrations. Read about our 2020 World Rivers Day photo contest.

This year, provided public health conditions allow, we are participating in a number of in-person events.

On Saturday, September 24, you will find us tabling at the Chilliwack River Salmon Run 2022. This walk/run event is open to all ages, and will provide valuable funding for equipment used in the monitoring and evaluation of Chilliwack’s waterways.

Location: Vedder Park, 45454 Petawawa Rd, Chilliwack.

Time: Event begins at 9:00 am.
