Watershed Watch Salmon Society is hiring! The Operations Director will support and guide our small team in all aspects of organizational operations, financial planning, and fundraising, working closely with our Executive Director, Financial Manager and Communications Manager. Job Posting: Operations Director

Salary: Negotiable and commensurate with experience.
Approximate range: $60,000-70,000 per year, plus benefits.
Job type: Full-time, permanent (one-year employment contract with possibility of extension and performance-based increase).
Start Date: October 30, 2019
Location: Lower Mainland, BC

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

  • Wants to make a positive difference for B.C.’s wild salmon and watersheds and the vast numbers of people who hold these things dear;
  • Has proven experience as a non-profit administrator, with strong knowledge of grant management, budget development and tracking, finance, and accounting;
  • Is self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, analytical and strategic, with excellent time and project management skills, and can adapt to changing circumstances;
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Is comfortable and adept in a leadership role;
  • Has experience working with a wide range of donors from individuals to larger foundations and is able to build and maintain relationships;
  • Is a strategic, rational thinker and creative problem-solver who seeks out evidence when forming opinions and making decisions;
  • Is familiar with provincial and federal regulations relating to societies and charities;
  • Knows, or can quickly learn how to use the following computer tools: Google Drive and Docs, Keela (CRM and donation tracking), Asana (project and task management), Quickbooks, MS Office products. Experience with WordPress, social media, and other communications tools would be assets;
  • Is comfortable working with a team that is spread throughout the lower mainland and Victoria;

Responsibilities

  • Act as the core administrative executive for our effective team of conservation advocates, overseeing budgeting, operations and financial management;
  • Lead grant development, tracking and reporting and work with our Financial Manager to keep staff up to date on project revenue and expenses, coordinating staff efforts to proactively address funding gaps and opportunities;
  • Work with our Executive Director and other staff to ensure work plans and activities align with our goals, strategic plans, budgets, and grant deliverables and timelines;
  • Coordinate financial and activity reporting to our Board of Directors and external reporting (e.g. lobbying, CRA annual reports, etc.);
  • Work with our Communications Manager and/or Engagement Manager to manage our Contact Relationship Management system and ensure donor and donation data are up to date and oversee fundraising plan, issuing of tax receipts, donor relations, and development of monthly giving program;
  • Assist our Executive Director in human resources management, including hiring, generating and tracking contracts for staff and external contractors, and reviewing staff performance, and ensure all staff are well versed in operating policies and practices;
  • Attend occasional field trips, retreats, and work-related social events to enhance your connection with colleagues, allies and the wild salmon ecosystems that you we defend;
  • Support the Engagement Manager in volunteer management, event planning and other key roles;
  • Coordinate with external partners (e.g. Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable) as needed for the administration of collaborative projects;
  • Work with our Communications Manager and other staff to develop communications plans and assist with public communications as needed.
