One step closer to protecting Norrish Creek

*JUNE 30, 2025 UPDATE: On June 28th, Fisheries and Oceans Canada told Global TV that Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) has been ordered to halt all gravel mining in Norrish Creek. Three of the seven of our asks were directed to DFO and these have been addressed.

They were:

  1. Rescind DFO’s 2021 Letter of Advice that facilitated this destruction.
  2. Issue a stop-work order under section 37(2) of the Fisheries Act to prevent any further damage.
  3. Launch a full and transparent investigation into CPKC’s activities, including cumulative effects on the Norrish Creek aquifer and surrounding salmon streams.

We have yet to hear from the Province of BC. Take a moment to send a letter today thanking DFO and urging the Province to take action now. *

This gravel-rich tributary of the Fraser River in the Fraser Valley is critical habitat for wild salmon, especially chum and coho. Each year, salmon return here to spawn and rear their young in the cool, clean water. But now, industrial-scale gravel mining is wreaking havoc.

Heavy gravel extraction is lowering the groundwater table, drying up nearby wetlands and creeks—including Worth Creek—and killing thousands of fertilized salmon eggs. This is fish habitat destruction in plain sight.

Worse yet, it’s happening without proper permits or environmental oversight, despite clear provincial and federal laws designed to prevent this kind of harm.

We need urgent action.

📣 Send a letter today to the federal and provincial ministers responsible. Tell them to uphold the law, stop this reckless destruction, and defend B.C.’s salmon streams.

The email below is editable and will go to key ministers, as well as your MP and MLA.
