Summary:

In response to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Herb Dhaliwal’s, December 2001 announcement of his intention to address serious conservation concerns with respect to BC’s inshore rockfish stocks, Terry Glavin prepared this report on behalf of the Sierra Club of British Columbia, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, David Suzuki Foundation, World Wildlife Fund and Watershed Watch Salmon Society. The report provides recommendations on what we feel is necessary to meet the deadlines set out by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and addresses matters of effort control, the problems associated with unknown rockfish catch, and a long-term conservation strategy.
