This summer, explore Port Coquitlam’s rivers, trails and salmon habitat with Watershed Watch Salmon Society.

Bike the Dike is back with TWO ways to participate.

Join us for a guided group ride on August 8, or explore the route with family and friends on your own schedule between August 1 and September 7.

Along the way, you’ll learn about the waterways winding through our community, the challenges they face and the work underway to reconnect and restore habitat for salmon and improve flood resiliency for people.

Join the guided bike tour

Join Watershed Watch on Saturday, August 8 from 10 am to 2 pm for a guided, 14-kilometre bike tour along the Pitt River.

We’ll meet at the gazebo in the centre of Peace Park. After a brief introduction, we’ll set out together and make several stops to talk about local environmental challenges and the efforts underway to restore and reconnect habitat along the waterway.

The ride will finish back at Peace Park, where we’ll have sandwiches, snacks and refreshments available for participants. We will also be raffling off several prize packs that include gift certificates from the Gillnetter Pub and Watershed Watch swag!

Explore the self-guided route

Can’t make the guided ride? Explore the Port Coquitlam dike on your own schedule anytime from B.C. Day weekend through Labour Day.

The main loop is approximately 24 kilometres, with an optional 10-kilometre extension to the Addington Point viewing platform. You can complete the route all at once, choose a shorter section or return another day to keep exploring.

We’ve created an interactive map with points of interest where you can learn about local waterways, salmon habitat, flood infrastructure and restoration work. It’s an easy-to-ride summer outing to enjoy with family and friends—and you might be surprised by what you discover along the way.

Discover the waterways in your own backyard

Port Coquitlam is home to approximately 30 kilometres of creeks and streams, along with an incredible network of rivers, sloughs and trails. Bike the Dike is an opportunity to experience these places from a new perspective and learn why healthy, connected waterways matter for salmon, flood safety and our community.

The tours take place on the unceded territories of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm and Katzie Peoples. Watershed Watch is grateful for our relationships with representatives and staff of these Nations and for our shared work to restore and reconnect local waterways affected by flood-control infrastructure.
