Celebrating the Heart of the Fraser for World Rivers Day!
August 1, 2019
By: Meghan Rooney
Watershed Watch Salmon Society is pleased to be a partner for World Rivers Day 2019. World Rivers Day and BC Rivers Day are both celebrated on the fourth Sunday in September, falling this year on September 22.
World Rivers Day celebrates the world’s waterways. It highlights the many values of rivers and strives to increase public awareness and encourage the improved stewardship of rivers around the world.
For the 15th annual World Rivers Day, the theme is “waterways in our communities.” Thousands of events involving millions of people are set to take place around the world. Activities will range from stream clean-ups and habitat enhancement projects to educational outings and community riverside celebrations.
Watershed Watch will be celebrating World and BC Rivers Day with a film screening of the new documentary the Heart of the Fraser.
Location: GW Graham Theatre, 45955 Thomas Rd, Chilliwack
Date and Time: September 21, 7 to 9 p.m.
Cost: By donation. Please RSVP here.
World Rivers Day is based on the incredible success of BC Rivers Day founded in 1980 by Mark Angelo, chair of the Outdoor Recreation Council.
Other World Rivers Day events include the Riverfest kickoff event along the Fraser, the great Burnaby Village Museum celebration along Deer Lake Brook, the annual massive cleanup of the Chilliwack-Vedder Rivers, the City of North Vancouver celebration along Mackay Creek, the Ridge Meadows Rivers Day in Maple Ridge, and the Quw’utsun River Day Celebration in Cowichan.
Mark the weekend of September 22 on your calendar and we hope you can join a World Rivers Day event near you.
