Congratulations to our 2024 Salmon Spawn Watch winners

As November draws to a close, so has our fourth annual Salmon Spawn Watch Contest. And that means it’s time to announce the winners!
Every year we invite salmon spawn spectators from around the province to share their photos and videos with us on social media, documenting wild salmon as they carry out their epic migrations. Those who participated were entered into a randomized draw to win great prizes.
This year we received dozens of submissions documenting this annual salmon spectacle. These wonderful entries showcased spawning salmon across B.C. waterways, from sockeye in the Adams River to coho in Surrey’s Cougar Canyon Creek. Popular salmon spawn watch locations this year also included the Vedder River and Okanagan River.
We want to give a big thank you to everyone who participated. By getting out to our local waterways to see salmon in action, you’re playing an important role in building awareness and highlighting the conditions salmon have to face every year.
Our lucky winners for this year are:
- Stina Verbena with an Instagram reel of chum salmon in Stoney Creek.
- Kate P. with a video of spawning coho in Surrey’s Cougar Canyon Creek.
- Molly Cooperman for a Twitter video of chinook and sockeye salmon in the Adam’s River, featuring some enthusiastic salmon spawn watchers.
- Clay H. for an Instagram reel of spawning chum salmon.
- Susie MC with photos of kokanee in the Okanagan River Channel in Penticton.
Although the contest has wrapped up, you may still have a chance to see salmon spawning in some areas of the province. Be on the lookout for late spawning action at your local salmon-bearing streams and continue to share your photos with us using the #SalmonSpawnWatch hashtag–just remember to take care when observing spawning salmon.
A huge thank you to all who participated in our contest, and we look forward to seeing your submissions again next year!
