World Water Day Events

World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, is a global day focused on the importance of freshwater and tackling the threats to clean water all over the world. This year’s theme is water and climate.
We have collected a small list of local events happening to celebrate World Water Day this year. We will update this list as we hear of new events.
Heart of the Fraser Screening
On March 13, join Watershed Watch and the Students of the Salish Sea for a screening of the Heart of the Fraser documentary followed by a discussion with the film’s director of cinematography, Chris Jenkins. More info.
When: March 13th, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Where: Room A24, HSD Building, University of Victoria
The Condor and the Eagle Screening
On March 19, the Council of Canadians invites you to celebrate World Water Day with a local screening of the documentary film The Condor & The Eagle. The Condor & The Eagle tells a story of four Indigenous leaders embarking on an extraordinary trans-continental adventure from the Canadian Boreal forests all the way into the heart of the Amazon jungle to unite the people of North and South America. More info.
When: March 19, 7 – 9 p.m.
Where: 246 Ingram St, Duncan
Screening of Heart of the Fraser and For the Love of Salmon
Join us for a special World Water Day screening of the award-winning films For the Love of Salmon (2018) and The Heart of the Fraser (2019). Followed by moderated conversation with three defenders of the Fraser River: Lina Azeez (Watershed Watch Salmon Society), Brendan Chu (filmmaker), and Fin Donnelly (Rivershed Society of BC). More info.
When: March 19, 7 – 9 p.m.

Brave Blue World Screening
Okanagan WaterWise welcomes you to a special screening of Brave Blue World, offered in partnership with UBC’s Okanagan Institute for Biodiversity, Resilience, and Ecosystem Services. More info.
When: March 19, 7:15-9:30 p.m. (Registration and doors open at 6:45)

AquaHacking Challenge BC 2020 Semi-final
Witness young, innovative AquaHackers from across Canada come together to present their brilliant tech solutions for some of today’s most critical freshwater issues in British Columbia. More info.
